Here is What to Expect in Verizon 5G Cities

Is Verizon 5G Fast?

Verizon 5G has expanded so far in 35 cities in the US. They use mmWave technology to support the 5G network, which means that 5G speeds are the fastest we have in the entire world for now. For instance, customers reported that their average speed is 506.1Mbps.

This means that it is twice as fast as South Korea’s major internet providers, which have been the market leaders for many years.

The speed differences between LTE and 5G are considerable. For instance, the LTE average speed is approximately 27 Mbps.

Where is Verizon 5G Available?

Back in April 2019, Verizon won the race for 5G and super speed and turned on 5G in Minneapolis and Chicago.

If you live in these cities, you can enjoy 5G. It can also be used with mobile phones, provided that the devices are compatible with 5G wireless networks.

Since April 2019, Verizon managed to reach 35 cities. Some of them are Cincinnati, Little Rock, and Kansas City.

Verizon 5G Price

Verizon 5G is not expensive if you already have a mobile phone compatible with 5G, and you also live in one of the areas with a 5G network. However, you need to pay for 5G to be able to access it. For instance, the cheapest plans start at about $70 per month, and you need to pay $10 extra for 5G access.

 Verizon 5G Indoors

Currently, Verizon claims that their 5G networks can reach up to 10 Gbps. However, there are certain factors that will slow down your 5G speed. For instance, the more people are connected to the same network, the slower it will be.

Furthermore, the distance to the closest 5G node might also slow it down, but one thing is for sure. 5G technology will keep improving, so we’ll reach higher speeds.

In terms of using 5G networks indoors, there is one main issue. As mentioned above, the technology used for these amazing speeds is the mmWave.

The main drawback of this tech is that it is not really optimized to go through obstacles, such as walls. This means that the reception indoors might not be as great as outdoors or public spaces.

The Home Service

Apart from mobile use, Verizon 5G also offers home access, which turns the 5G signal to Wi-Fi, allowing the customer to use the 5G network on their laptop and other smart home devices.

This service is not widely available for now, but it is more affordable. For instance, the Verizon Home 5G plan is only $50 per month, but you need to have a Verizon Wireless plan that is a minimum of $30 per month. In case you do not have the mobile plan, the Home 5G service costs $70 per month.

The Plan for the Future

Verizon plans to build the 5G network utilizing small cells, all around the country. For now, Verizon 5G services will massively rely on its 4G network.

While it is reasonable to expect 5G services in large cities and busy public spaces, such as airports or stadiums, it is not so realistic to expect 5G in rural areas or suburbs for many years to come.

Summary

All in all, Verizon 5G is the winner when it comes to the next generation of wireless networks. With impressive speeds that can reach up to 10 Gbps theoretically, the future is here.

Given the current limitations of the 5G network, it’s reasonable to expect that Verizon will keep investing in its 5G infrastructure in order to make the network better and better. If you are lucky to live in one of the 5G cities, make sure you check it out!
